Professional Development

Practitioner members of AMT must participate in at least 20 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) per year. One hour of active learning is equal to one hour of CPD. Please download our Professional Development Guide for more information.

Please watch our webinar which tells you everything you need to know about AMT's PD system, including a live screen demonstration of how to submit a reflection in your member portal. We have even set you a reflection task to complete which will add to the number of hours you can claim for completing the suggested activity.

Professional development standards

AMT’s professional development standards set out what is expected when you are planning, undertaking and documenting your professional development. We encourage you to read the standards to ensure your professional development activities are in line with requirements.

There are 7 standards that cover documentation, relevance and scope, variety, quality of formal and informal activities, quality assurance, and audit of records.

AMT's official scope of practice for massage therapy is published in the AMT Code of Practice. Study in modalities identified by AMT to be outside the scope of massage will not be accepted as professional development. For a full list of these modalities please refer to pages 11 and 12 of the AMT Code of Practice here.

Need some professional development inspiration?

We've got a whole swag of new suggestions for 2024, along with some old favs. You can download our suggested professional development activities here.

We also have past PD Webinars and Workshops available on demand, once you’ve registered you will be sent the recording. You can check out them out here.

If you've seen an upcoming conference, lecture or Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) that you’re interested in doing, send us the details via info@amt.org.au and we will confirm whether it is eligible for CPD.

AMT will accept up to 5 peer reviews from an AMT member who treats a colleague with formal qualifications in massage therapy. You will need to download and complete the AMT Peer Review Form and upload it to your membership portal when completing your reflection.
