In 2013, AMT entered into a research services agreement with the Australian Research Centre in Complementary and Integrative Medicine. AMT has funded a study into "Patient Expectations, perceptions and experiences of massage therapy use in health care management" through the University of Technology, Sydney (where ARCCIM is led by Professor Jon Adams).
The AMT/ARCCIM study commenced with an online workforce survey, which was undertaken in 2014. The patient arm of the survey commenced in June 2015. The lead investigator is Dr Jon Wardle, Research Fellow at the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at UTS.
In June 2015, the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork published a paper based on a workforce survey that was undertaken by AMT in 2010. The data collected at this time provides a baseline for the current AMT/ARCCIM study. You can download that paper here.
